Pasta Masters Cookery Camp with Chef Ben

One-Day Children’s & Teen Pasta-Making Course

Looking for a fun and educational summer holiday activity in Cornwall? Pasta Masters Cookery Camp with Chef Ben is a hands-on one-day cookery course designed for children and teenagers who want to build kitchen confidence, learn new culinary skills, and enjoy a day of creative cooking in a professional kitchen environment.

Hosted at the Truro School Cookery School, this exciting summer workshop introduces young chefs to the art of fresh pasta making, bread making, food preparation, kitchen safety, and healthy cooking techniques.

What Will Young Chefs Learn?

Fresh Bread Making

The day begins with studentsexploring the world of bread making. They will:

  • Learn how bread dough is created and developed
  • Discover the processes behind baking great bread
  • Taste different styles of bread
  • Create their own bread or garlic bread to accompany their pasta dish
  • Shape their dough into unique and creative designs

Pasta Making Workshop

In the afternoon, students will partipate in an interactive pasta-making masterclass, including:

  • Make fresh pasta dough from scratch
  • Learn how to naturally colour pasta using ingredients such as beetroot and other vegetables
  • Discover how vegetables can add flavour and nutrition to recipes
  • Roll, shape and prepare their own handmade pasta ready for cooking

Cooking Delicious Pasta Sauces

Kids Session (Ages 8–12)

Our younger chefs will create a simple and delicious tomato pasta sauce using fresh tomatoes and herbs. Along the way, they’ll learn about ingredients, flavour combinations, and basic food preparation skills.

Teen Session (Ages 13–17)

Teen participants will take their cooking skills further by creating more advanced pasta sauces. They’ll learn:

  • Essential knife skills
  • Safe food preparation techniques
  • Cooking methods and flavour development
  • The science behind creating balanced and delicious pasta dishes

Kitchen Skills, Hygiene and Safety

Cooking is about more than creating delicious food. Throughout the day, students will also learn important practical kitchen skills, including:

  • Food hygiene and safe cooking practices
  • Kitchen organisation and preparation
  • Washing up and cleaning techniques
  • Working safely and confidently in a professional kitchen environment

These valuable life skills help young chefs become more independent and confident in the kitchen.

About Chef Ben Arthur

Chef Ben Arthur has over 25 years of experience working in some of the UK’s most respected kitchens, including Michelin-starred restaurants, award-winning hotels, and large-scale events. Trained through the renowned Jamie Oliver Fifteen programme, Ben has gone on to lead teams as Head Chef, develop food products, run festivals and events, and work as a hospitality consultant.
Passionate about great ingredients, food science, sustainability and sharing knowledge, Ben’s classes combine professional techniques with a relaxed, engaging teaching style. Whether you’re looking to build confidence in the kitchen or learn new skills, Ben believes cooking should be accessible, enjoyable and full of flavour.

Standard Camp Day

10:00am – 4:00pm

Extended Day with Wraparound Care (Ages 8–12 Only)

8:30am – 5:30pm

Age Groups

  • Kids Session: Ages 8–12 years
  • Teen Session: Ages 13–17 years

Recipes, teaching methods and activities will be adapted to suit each age group.

Cost

£51 per child.

Lunch and Refreshments

Children should bring:

  • A healthy packed lunch
  • Snacks for the day
  • A refillable water bottle
  • Please note: No nuts

We recommend bringing a packed lunch, as some recipes may take time to prepare and many young chefs enjoy taking their creations home to share with family and friends.

Arrival and Collection

Standard Camp Day

Arrival

Registration takes place at the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre from 9:45am.

Collection

Collection takes place between 4:00pm and 4:15pm from the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre.

If your child needs to leave early, please notify a member of staff during registration.

Wraparound Care (Ages 8–12)

To support working families, children attending the Pasta Masters Kids Session can access additional wraparound care through the Truro School Multi-Sport Camp.

Morning Session

  • Arrival between 8:30am and 9:00am
  • Children join the Multi-Sport Camp before transferring to Pasta Masters at 10:00am

Afternoon Session

  • Children return to the Multi-Sport Camp at 4:00pm
  • Collection between 5:00pm and 5:30pm from the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre

Cost

  • £5 per morning session
  • £5 per afternoon session
