Truro School Cookery has been delighted to welcome The Galley Gang this October, an international community of yacht chefs who have come together in Cornwall for an inspiring programme of culinary collaboration, specialist masterclasses and hands-on learning.
Travelling from as far afield as Australia, the USA and Canada, the chefs are joined by talented culinary professionals from across Cornwall and the UK. Our cookery school provides the ideal base for their intensive workshops, with professional facilities, on-site accommodation and a central location from which to explore all that Cornwall has to offer.
Throughout the week, the group has been learning from a fantastic line-up of guest specialists, including Cassio Parente from Native Grain, who led a baker’s masterclass covering everything from rye loaves and focaccia to bagels, pizza bases, baguettes and country loaves. Brian Etherington Meat delivered an expert butchery demonstration, preparing a whole venison on site, while Sham from Situ Café shared the secrets of traditional Indian curries and onion bhajis. Japanese sushi chef Keiko travelled from London to host a sushi spectacular, and Jessie Dodkins guided the group through the art of pasta making.
To celebrate the culmination of their culinary adventures, the chefs will come together this Friday, 30 October, to present an exclusive 10-course tasting menu at Truro School Cookery’s on-site café.
Hosted by the Galley Gang chefs and led by local culinary legend Chef Arty Williams, formerly of The Cove, Maenporth, this special evening will showcase the skills, techniques and creativity developed throughout their intensive programme. Expect exceptional seasonal flavours, inventive dishes and the unique flair that comes from 11 chefs working together.
The evening begins with welcome cocktails and canapés in our main kitchen, giving guests the opportunity to see the chefs in action before sitting down to enjoy their carefully crafted menu.
There are just a couple of places left for what promises to be a truly special dining experience.
Tickets cost £80 per person (£30 deposit to secure your booking, with the remaining balance payable on the evening). The experience includes:
Additional bottles of wine will be available to purchase on the evening, alongside a selection of soft drinks for those who prefer not to drink alcohol.
There is also a wonderful charitable element to the event: £10 from every ticket sold will be donated to The Trussell Trust, supporting its work to tackle hunger and poverty.
We’re proud to provide a space where chefs from around the world can share their knowledge, develop their craft and celebrate the joy of great food together.
