Off to University Course – 5-day intensive course
Moving away from home for the first time is a challenge for any young person. This intensive 5-day course (with residential or non-residential options) is designed for school leavers (18 and over) and undergraduates who are about to move away from home and cook for themselves for perhaps the first time.
The course is designed for pupils who want to learn key cookery skills for University as well as gap year travels with a variety of recipes designed for independent life.
What will you learn to cook?
This is an entirely practical course of study with globally inspired, practical dishes designed to help with independent living. Students learn key skills over the course of the week that are used in a multitude of other recipes in the future. You’ll cook delicious breakfast recipes, ideas for simple lunches, dinners and afternoon teas. Budgeting and food hygiene is also taken into account to ensure students learn how to cook delicious, economical and hygienically safe meals for flatmates, family and friends.
The recipes over the course are quick, easy and affordable. Students learn a wide variety of dishes, including how to cook mince and all the meals you can make with it (bolognese, chilli con carne, ‘sloppy Joes’, lasagne); fried chicken schnitzel, a roast meal; soups; salads, curries; pies; pasta bake; all ways with eggs; classic cakes and biscuits and a couple of fun meals like Mexican fajitas, quesadillas and pizzas.
The course is designed in such a way that students make and eat their own breakfasts, lunches and dinners to take away or eat in their accommodation.
